PITTSBURGH – LoLo Sanchez of softball and Greg Lauray of men’s track & field were named the Office Depot Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Sanchez led the Pitt softball team on the offensive end at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament in Los Angeles this past weekend, hitting .571 and recording a .714 slugging percentage. The Stockton, Calif., native totaled 10 bases, two RBIs and two runs while also hitting a triple. After one weekend of play, Sanchez is fourth in the ACC in batting average and on base percentage (.625). Pitt finished 2-3 for the tournament, with wins over CSU Bakersfield and San Diego.
Lauray, a junior, had the best performance of the weekend for the Panthers at the Meyo Invitational as he claimed the victory in the high jump with a school record leap. The junior cleared a height of 7’3.75” (2.23m), breaking his own school record from a season ago. The leap also marked the best leap in the ACC and seventh best in the NCAA this season. He is now the school record holder in both the indoor and outdoor high jump.
Pitt softball will compete Feb. 14-16 at the ACC/B1G Challenge against Michigan State and Maryland in Clemson, S.C.
Up next for Pitt track & field is the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., Friday and Saturday.
