PITTSBURGH – Madisyn Kittell of lacrosse and Matt Gilbertson of baseball were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Kittell had a solid week for the Panthers as the team defeated Niagara 15-7 and fell to No. 2 Boston College 19-12. Against the Purple Eagles, Kittell scored once and assisted on another goal in addition to recording two ground balls and a caused turnover. The graduate transfer from Syracuse, N.Y., led the Panthers in points in their ACC matchup against the defending national champions. In that matchup, she scored four goals on only four shots to keep Pitt within striking distance for much of the game, including getting out to a 7-3 early lead. Kittell also recorded a ground ball in the game and currently sits in second on the team in points with 30 (17G, 13A).
Gilbertson led Pitt to a series-opening 8-0 shutout of No. 20 Clemson Friday, going seven innings with nine strikeouts and just five hits and one walk allowed. The Panthers went on to sweep the Tigers with a 10-7 in the next game of the doubleheader to record their first ACC series win of the season and series victory against the in-conference foe.
