PITTSBURGH – Dani Drogemuller of softball and Felix Wolter of men’s track & field were named the Pitt Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Drogemuller, a redshirt freshman, was superb inside the circle for the Panthers, going 2-0 with two complete games and a shutout, the first of her career. In 15.0 innings pitched, she did not give up an earned run and allowed only seven hits, two walks all while striking out 19 batters. In a 2-1 extra inning victory against USC Upstate, the Frankfort, Ill., native struck out a career-high 12 batters, which is tied for fifth all-time for a single-game at Pitt. She is currently third in the ACC in ERA (0.78), third in complete games (5), fifth in strikeouts (48) and tied for sixth in wins (5).
Wolter had a big weekend for the Panthers as he was able to claim his second straight indoor ACC crown in the heptathlon. The senior posted a new personal record, school record and facility record score of 5,979 as he became the first Panther in program history to secure two indoor ACC titles. Wolter earned 10 team points and First Team All-ACC honors as he became just the second heptathlete in ACC history to win back-to-back crowns in the event.
The Germany native was able to claim three victories in the seven events while also setting three personal records and two top-10 program marks on the weekend. He opened up his weekend with a third-place finish in the 60m dash as he crossed the finish line in 7.08 seconds before claiming his first win of the day in the long jump as he posted a leap of 24'9.25" (7.55m). He then posted a fourth-place finish in the shot put before winning the high jump with a new PR height of 6'7.00" (2.01m), tied for the fourth best leap in school history. He closed day one with 3,288 points and the lead through four events.
Wolter opened up day two with a victory in the 60m hurdles as he posted a time of 8.21 seconds to earn 930 points. He was then able to grab second place in the pole vault with a new personal record height of 16'0.75" (4.90m), the second-best height in program history in the event. He then secured the crown with a second-place finish in the 1000m run with a personal record time of 2:39.28.
