PITTSBURGH – Chiamaka Nwokolo of women’s volleyball and Greg Lauray of the men’s track and field team were named the Office Depot/Supra Student-Athletes of the Week following impressive performances in their respective sports.
Nwokolo’s strong offensive showing helped lead the 19th-ranked Pitt volleyball team to a sweep of Villanova Sunday afternoon on the road. The sophomore middle blocker recorded nine kills on a career-best .727 hitting, with 11 attempts and one error. She put away a perfect 7-of-7 attempts in the first set. The Columbus, Ohio, native added four blocks to round out her performance for the Panthers.
Lauray had another strong weekend for the Panthers as he was able to claim his second win in the high jump in as many weeks. The senior cleared a season-best height of 7’1.00” (2.16m) to earn the victory. The height is the 10th best in the NCAA this year and tied for the best in the ACC.
