Ty Walters was named Data Scientist, Athletics in November 2022. In his role, he is responsible for using state of the art techniques and tools to assist with decision making on, and off, the field.
Graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in Business Data Analytics in 2019, Walters went on to obtain his Master’s in Analytics from Georgia Tech. During this time, he was an intern with Chicago Fire Football Club and the Phoenix Suns. Following the internship with the Suns he was brought on as a Data Scientist full time until November 2022.
A Kansas City, Missouri native, Walters resides in Phoenix, AZ.

What is your favorite aspect of working in Pitt’s athletic department?
My favorite aspect about working with Pitt’s athletic department is the openness and desire for new innovative ideas to improve not only the fan experience but the competitive edge on the field.
What do you love most about working in athletics?
The thing I love most about working in athletics is the opportunity to be a small part of the sports world that has always been a large part of my life.
Hobbies outside of work?
I enjoy traveling, trying new foods or experiencing new things and continuing to play basketball with friends.
