Marisa Maleike joined the University of Pittsburgh as part of the Sports Medicine staff in August of 2020. Maleike works in the Petersen Sports Complex and serves as the primary athletic trainer with the women’s lacrosse team, joining them for the inaugural year of the program. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she is a preceptor for Pitt’s accredited athletic training program.
Prior to her arrival at Pitt, Maleike spent six years at James Madison as an assistant athletic trainer working with the women’s lacrosse team. During her time with the Dukes, the women’s lacrosse team won the NCAA National Championship in 2018 and earned the CAA Championship title in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Additionally, she has experience supervising graduate assistants with field hockey and cheer, was the staff advisor for Madison Athletic Training Student Association, and Gatorade Summer Camp Manager.
Maleike served as a two-year graduate assistant athletic trainer at Tennessee from 2012-2014, earning a master’s degree in sport psychology and motor behavior. At Tennessee, she worked directly with women’s volleyball.
A 2012 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training, Maleike worked as an athletic training student with football, men’s soccer, track and field, Ballet Met, Ohio Dominican football, Westerville Central High School and OSU Sports Medicine Clinic.
Maleike is a board-certified athletic trainer and licensed through the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine.
Additionally, Maleike is a Corrective Exercise Specialist through National academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), certified in Owen’s Recovery Science Personalized Blood Flow Restriction, Structure & Functional Dry Needling, Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, and CPR/AED for Processional Rescuers.
A Miamisburg, Ohio native, Maleike resides in Munhall.

Favorite sports moment at Pitt?
My favorite sports moment was the inaugural Pitt women's lacrosse game at Highmark Stadium in 2021.
What is your favorite thing to do in the city of Pittsburgh?
I enjoy finding new restaurants, attending city festivals, and listening to live music.
