One of the finest middle linebackers ever to play at Pitt, Scott McKillop is in his second season on the Panthers’ staff. A volunteer assistant last year, McKillop will serve as a defensive graduate assistant for the 2015 season.
During his accomplished Pitt career (2004-08), McKillop collected a lengthy list of honors while anchoring
two nationally ranked defenses. As a senior he was named to the prestigious Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-America Team and also was selected the Big East Defensive Player of the Year by the league’s coaches and media. His junior year, McKillop was the NCAA statistical champion in tackles, averaging 12.58 per game.
McKillop still ranks among Pitt’s top 10 all-time tacklers with 344 career stops. Perhaps his most memorable tackle came in the Panthers’ famed 13-9 upset of West Virginia in 2007 when he halted Steve Slaton on a 4th-and-3 situation late in the fourth quarter.
A fifth-round selection by San Francisco in the 2009 NFL Draft, McKillop played in all 16 games his rookie season and led the 49ers in special teams tackles. Unfortunately a 2010 preseason knee injury cut short his pro career.
McKillop is a 2008 graduate from Pitt with a bachelor’s degree in business marketing. He is a recipient of the Panther Award, one of the university’s most celebrated senior student-athlete honors, and has his name engraved on Pitt’s Varsity Walk.
A native of Export, Pa., McKillop was an all-state performer in football and wrestling at Kiski Area High School. He and the former Lauren Statler were married this summer.
