SOPHOMORE (2005): A preseason All-American, Jim Negrcyh started 54 games in his second season...owns 109 career starts...led the team in home runs (16), RBIs (59), on-base percentage (.471) and walks (44, single-season Pitt record)...also had 14 doubles, 52 runs and a .694 slugging percentage, all second on the team...finished the season hitting seven home runs in his final eight games...had 20 multiple-hit games and a team-best 17 multiple-RBI games...in the Big East Tournament, catapulted the Panthers to their first conference tourney championship game since 1995 with a memorable performance in the elimination game against Boston College...drove in all three of Pitt[apos]s runs in the 3-2, 12-inning victory over the Eagles...after hitting a solo home run earlier in the game, Negrych blasted a two-out, two-run homer over 400 feet to center field, giving the Panthers the dramatic victory...became only the 11th player in Big East Tournament history to hit two home runs in one game, joining the likes of former major leaguer Mo Vaughn (Seton Hall, 1989) to accomplish the feat...also added two hits and a stolen base earlier that day against Notre Dame in the winner[apos]s bracket game...in Big East action, led the squad with a .385 batting average to go along with eight home runs and 25 RBIs...had a season-high eight game hitting streak (twice), with his most recent stretching from April 12 (Akron) to April 30 (West Virginia, G2)...during the streak, scored 11 runs and drove in five more...in the regular-season three-game series finale at Georgetown, finished 4-for-11 with four home runs, seven RBIs and four runs scored...belted two home runs in the Panthers[apos] 6-1 victory (G1)...added solo home run in the nightcap and followed up with a two-run blast in the series final game...drove in a career-high (tied) five runs in Pitt[apos]s Big East opening victory over Seton Hall...finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored...had a home run and two doubles as well as a stolen base against the Pirates...knocked in five RBIs in the Panthers[apos] 12-2 win against Kent State (March 30)...blasted two home runs and added a double as he finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored...in the three-game series against Canisius (March 19-20), collected five hits (nine at-bats) and had six RBIs and three runs scored...added two stolen bases against the Griffs...finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs, two home runs, three walksand two runs scored in the doubleheader sweep over Notre Dame (May 15)...in the three game series against Villanova, was 4-for-10 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored...tallied three hits and scored two runs in Pitt[apos]s 9-2 victory over Duquesne at PNC Park...blasted a home run and finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored versus Wagner...added three hits and a run scored against Lafayette. FRESHMAN (2004): In his first season with Pittsburgh, Negrych played in all 56 games, starting 55 at second base...named Big East Rookie of the Year, the first Panther to earn the honor since OF Bill Sherbondy won the award in 1988...earned Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America and Louisville Slugger...finished second in the Big East in batting with a .378 average and sixth in on-base percentage (.464) and slugging percentage (.592)...also ranked among the league[apos]s leaders in doubles (2nd, 20 total), total bases (5th, 119 total), hits (6th, 76 total) and walks (7th, 33 total)...his 20 doubles broke the school[apos]s single-season record...totaled 76 hits, tying the school record set in 2002 by Brad Rea...finished the regular season with a team-best 22 multiple-hit games and also added 11 multiple-RBI games...won the Hooters Home Run Derby at the Homestead Challenge by hitting four homers in the finals...posted a career-high 13-game hitting streak that lasted from May 1 (Villanova) to May 22 (St. John[apos]s, G1)...hit .500 with 24 hits (eight doubles) and 16 runs...also had a 12-game hitting streak that lasted from March 12 (Iona) to April 3 (Boston College)...hit .429 during the streak with 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored...collected a career-high four hits (tied) and added one RBI against Evansville...also had four hits at Villanova (April 30, G1) and at Buffalo...added three runs and three RBIs against the Bulls...drove in four runs to go along with two doubles and two runs scored in the win at Niagara...was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored in the Panthers[apos] 5-1 victory over Duquesne at PNC Park...in his first collegiate game, tallied three hits, including a solo home run and a double, in the win over New Orleans...his game-winning homer came off of All-American Thomas Diamond...posted three hits and drove in three runs against Temple at the Homestead Challenge...also had three hits, including a home run, with two runs and two RBIs against New York Tech (April 17, G1)...finished the three-game series against the Bears 6-for-13 with three runs, three RBIs and one stolen base...recorded two hits (double) and added one run scored and one RBI against West Virginia (G2)...tallied two doubles and two runs scored in the Panthers[apos] 5-4 victory over Virginia Tech (March 27, G2)...followed up with two more hits, two RBIs and two runs scored in the series finale the next day against the Hokies...hit the game-winning, walk-off home run to defeat Georgetown 6-5 (April 23, G1)...hit the second half of back-to-back home runs (Bryan Spamer) to clinch the five-run seventh inning comeback...finished with two hits against the Hoyas...had a career-high two stolen bases against Niagara (March 24, G2).
