Panthers Travel West to Face Cal Sunday

PITTSBURGH — The Pitt men's soccer team travels to Berkeley, Calif., for a matchup with Cal on Sunday at Edwards Stadium. Opening kick is set for 6:30 p.m. ET, with live coverage available on ACCNX. Sunday's match is the second game of a doubleheader at Edwards Stadium, so the start time is subject to change.

OPENING KICK

Sunday's match marks just the third all-time meeting between Pitt and Cal, with the Bears holding a 2-0-0 series edge after the two sides met most recently in last season's ACC Quarterfinals, where Cal advanced. Head coach Jay Vidovich enters the match with 99 wins at Pitt, meaning a win over Cal would give him the 100th of his career with the program.

LAST TIME OUT

Pitt earned its first ranked win of the season on Sept. 15, downing No. 17 Cornell 2-0 at home to improve to 4-2-1 (0-1-0 ACC). Miguel Bertran found the go-ahead goal early, while Mamadou Tall doubled the lead with a late header. Jack Moxom made five saves to earn his third clean sheet of the season.

SCOUTING THE BEARS

Cal comes into the match on a two-match skid, having dropped back-to-back road matches at Louisville (2-3) and San Francisco (2-3) to fall to 2-2-3 on the season. Leonard Griffin is in his fifth season as Cal's head coach, holding a career record of 49-54-22.

MAMADOU MAKING HIS MARK

Freshman striker Mamadou Tall has quickly become a key piece of the Pitt attack, leading the team with three goals and seven points through seven matches. Tall scored his first collegiate goal against then-No. 7 Maryland on Aug. 20 in his first career start at center forward, and he followed it with the game-clinching header against Cornell on Sept. 15.
