NEWTON, Mass. – No. 17 Pitt men's soccer earned a dramatic 2-0 victory over Boston College Friday night at Newton Campus Field, scoring twice in the final 90 seconds to take three points on the road.
After a scoreless first half, the Panthers continued to battle for the breakthrough before finally finding the back of the net in the 89th minute. Boston College was called for a handball in the box, resulting in a penalty kick for the Panthers. Caden Grabfelder converted the opportunity with a shot to the upper right corner, marking Grabfelder's second of the season, with both of his goals coming from the penalty spot.
Pitt doubled its advantage just one minute later when Miguel Bertran found the back of the net off a pass from Carter Kopay that found its way behind the Eagles' keeper. The goal marks Bertran's third of the season and put the Panthers ahead 2-0 with six seconds left on the clock.
Pitt finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots and put four attempts on target, while limiting Boston College to zero shots on goal. Goalkeeper Jack Moxom did not need to make a save to record his sixth shutout of the season and earn his ninth win of the year. The victory improved Pitt to 9-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in ACC play.
