Pitt Falls to Clemson Saturday Night

PITTSBURGH – Pitt dropped the second game of the series in five innings, 13-2, to Clemson Saturday night at Vartabedian Field.
Jamison Brockenbrough opened the scoring with a leadoff home run to right field, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Kyra Pittman settled in afterward, retiring the next three batters on a strikeout, groundout and strikeout to limit the damage.
Clemson extended its advantage in the second inning, loading the bases before Kylee Johnson connected for a grand slam to push the lead to 5-1 with no outs. The Tigers added another run in the frame to take a 6-1 lead.
Camryn Murphy answered in the bottom half of the inning, launching a solo home run to left field to trim the deficit to 6-2.
The Tigers broke the game open in the fourth inning, plating seven runs. Clemson tallied an RBI single, a two-run homer from Macey Cintron, an RBI double and another two-run home run from Sarah Breaux. Taylor Pipkins also homered in the inning as Clemson finished with three long balls in the fourth.
Cintron earned the win in the circle for the Tigers, while Pittman was charged with the loss.
Pitt and Clemson wrap up the series Sunday at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
