Pitt Drops Home ACC Contest to No. 20 Virginia

PITTSBURGH - No. 21 Pitt women's lacrosse dropped a 10-7 decision to No. 20 Virginia Wednesday afternoon at Highmark Stadium, falling to 3-3 on the season and 2-2 in ACC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Pitt opened the scoring with back-to-back goals from Avery Moon and Emily Clemens in the first three minutes of play to take a 2-0 lead. Virginia responded with a goal late in the first quarter to trail 2-1 heading to the second.
Paige Telatovich extended the Pitt advantage to 3-1, but Virginia scored three unanswered to close the half, including a man-up goal and a free-position conversion, taking a 4-3 lead into the break.
Virginia extended the lead to five in the third quarter, going on a 4-0 run to lead 8-3. Telatovich converted a man-up opportunity with six minutes left in the frame to end the scoring drought, but the Cavaliers closed the quarter ahead 9-4.
Pitt scored three of the four goals in the fourth, with Telatovich, Kara Trullender and Moon all finding the net to cut the deficit to two. Virginia answered with a late goal to close out the 10-7 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Telatovich recorded a hat trick and an assist for four points on the day.
- Moon added two goals and two assists for four points.
- Trullender scored her first goal of the season, adding an assist for two points.
- Clemens tallied her tenth goal of the season in the contest.
- Molly Cain made nine saves in goal.
- Pitt caused 10 turnovers on the afternoon compared to Virginia's five.
