Pitt Falls in Home Opener to RMU

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt Panthers fell to Robert Morris in their home opener at Vartabedian Field, 12-3, on Tuesday night.
Tieley Vaughn accounted for two of the Panthers' five hits and factored into all three of their runs. Vaughn went 2-4 with a home run, two RBI and run scored.
RMU started the scoring with six runs on three hits in the top of the second inning. The Panthers were able to limit additional damage in the second as they had the Colonials leave the bases loaded to end the inning.
Pitt got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning. Ahmari Braden worked a walk to lead off the inning and would steal both second and third to put herself in prime scoring position. Tieley Vaughn would drove in Braden on a single to left on at-bat later.
Alena Ball reached on an infield single to third and moved up to second on a throwing error by the third baseman. The errant throw allowed Vaughn to score all the way from first, giving Pitt their second run of the game. The Panthers trailed 6-2 after three innings.
The Colonials added runs in the fourth and sixth innings to extend their lead to six. A four-run seventh inning made it a 12-2 ballgame.
Tieley Vaughn hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Panthers fell in their home opener, 12-3.
Pitt will head to Raleigh, NC this weekend to take on NC State in the second weekend of conference play.
