Pitt Falls to Houston After Late Rally

HOUSTON, Texas – Pitt powered to an early lead but dropped a 6–3 decision to Houston following a late rally in the opening game of the Houston Invitational at Cougar Softball Stadium Thursday night.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead behind the long ball. Ahmari Braden put Pitt on the board in the first inning with a solo home run, her first of the season. Braden stayed hot at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with two home runs on the night.
Pitt extended its lead in the second inning when Mackenzie Reese launched a solo shot to center field, marking the first home run of her collegiate career and giving the Panthers a 2–0 advantage. Houston matched with solo home runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the game at 2–2.
Kyra Pittman delivered a strong start in the circle, tossing 4.0 innings while allowing two runs on two hits. She struck out four and issued one walk.
Gwen Sparks entered in the bottom of the fifth, and Houston took control in the sixth with a four-run inning. London Park closed out the game in relief, pitching 5.0 innings to earn the win. Park was especially sharp down the stretch, retiring the side in order in both the sixth and seventh innings.
