Panthers Welcome SMU for Sunday Matinee

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball game will play their second game of its two-game homestand Sunday, hosting SMU at 1 p.m. inside the Petersen Events Center. The game will air on ACCNX.

THE OPENING TIP

Pitt is coming off a hard-fought 69-65 setback to Florida State on Thursday evening at the Petersen Events Center.
Mikayla Johnson led the Panthers with 19 points and seven rebounds, adding two steals.
Carla Viegas finished with 15 points, connecting on three triples, while also contributing a career-high five rebounds and an assist.
Fatima Diakhate controlled the glass, recording nine points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

SERIES HISTORY

Pitt is 3-0 all-time against SMU, with two victories last season in the Mustangs' first year in the ACC.
Most notably, Pitt completed the largest regulation comeback in NCAA women's basketball history against SMU on Jan. 12, 2025, at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers erased a 32-point deficit, outscoring SMU 54-10 in the second half to secure a 72-59 win.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS

SMU is in its first season under head coach Adia Barnes and is searching for its first ACC win of the 2025-26 campaign.
Zahra King (13.4 ppg) and Paulina Paris (10.7 ppg) have led the Mustangs offensively. King is SMU's top perimeter threat, shooting 45.8% from three-point range.
The Mustangs feature two players with 20 or more blocks on the season, led by Anaya Brown (23) and Grace Hall (20).
