GAMEDAY: Football vs. Central Michigan

Pitt fans have plenty of reasons to tune in this weekend as the Panthers prepare to host Central Michigan following an opener that highlighted both new faces and veteran playmakers. Quarterback Eli Holstein threw four touchdown passes, becoming the first Pitt signal-caller to do so since Kenny Pickett in 2021. His 215-yard effort, paired with 41 rushing yards, fueled an offense that produced 460 total yards, its highest output in nearly a year. Wide receiver Cataurus “Blue” Hicks made an instant impression in his debut, scoring twice and pulling in a one-handed grab that landed on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top Plays.
Special teams and versatility added to Pitt’s attack. Running back Desmond Reid totaled 147 all-purpose yards, highlighted by an 88-yard punt return—the longest in Acrisure Stadium history—and a 53-yard touchdown run. Kenny Johnson showcased his all-around ability with nearly 190 all-purpose yards, including a touchdown reception. Thirteen different receivers caught passes overall, underscoring the Panthers’ offensive depth.
Defensively, Pitt held Duquesne to just 37 rushing yards and 208 total yards, improving to 21-3 under Pat Narduzzi when keeping an opponent under 250 yards. Linebacker Kyle Louis led the effort with six tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks, putting him atop the ACC early in the season. With a 34-6 all-time record against Mid-American Conference opponents, the Panthers will look to continue that success Saturday against Central Michigan.
