PITTSBURGH — Each week, as Pitt prepares for its next opponent, we'll look at what the other side is saying about the Panthers. Here's a snapshot of how Central Michigan is sizing up Pitt ahead of Saturday's matchup at Acrisure Stadium.
"They Do Everything Well"
Central Michigan defensive back Brenden Deasfernandes spoke this week about the difficulty of defending Pitt's offense.
"They have a great quarterback, but they're really a balanced team," he said. "They've got really fast receivers, a strong, fast running back, solid tight ends, and a good offensive line. We're going to have to dominate all three phases and stay on top of everything—all three levels of the defense."
Saturday also marks a special opportunity for CMU, as the team visits an NFL venue in Acrisure Stadium.
"It's going to be a little nerve-wracking, but definitely exciting," Deasfernandes said. "We're getting to showcase our talents in front of NFL guys. We've got Donte Kent, Lew Nichols coming to the game too. We're just excited to play there."
High Praise for Pitt's Defense
Chippewas head coach Matt Drinkall offered glowing remarks about Pitt's defensive unit.
"Very impressive players," he said. "They're long, athletic, twitchy, physical—and they run hard to the ball. They're also incredibly well-coached. Their details, mechanics, and fundamentals are outstanding."
Drinkall credited Coach Pat Narduzzi's reputation in the coaching world as a standard-bearer.
"He's the guy everyone copies," Drinkall said. "You watch Pitt's tape and it looks exactly like what you expect. Impressive group."
CMU's QB Shuffle
Central Michigan utilized multiple quarterbacks in Week 1 and could continue that trend. Drinkall explained his philosophy: "You play a lot of guys at every other position—why not at quarterback?"
While Bert Emanuel Jr. took the bulk of the snaps, true freshman Jadyn Glasser may see increased time this weekend.
"We probably should've played Jadyn a little more," Drinkall said. "Some missed conversions cut down our snap count, but we've got three good players at that spot."
