
Pitt to Compete in Two Individual Events and One Relay at NCAA Championships

PITTSBURGH – Five individuals and two alternates will traverse to Eugene, Oregon to compete in the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field June 11-14.
Darren McQueen Jr., Nigel Hussey, Malik Ricketts, and Stephon Brown will compete in the first event of the meet, the men's 4x100 relay prelims on Wednesday evening at 4:05 p.m. PT/ 7:05 p.m. ET. The foursome is slotted in the third and final heat. The top two finishers from each of the three heats and the next three best overall times will advance to Friday's final. At the NCAA East Regional, the quartet strung together a 9th place finish with a time of 39.12, besting their previous time of 39.26, which solidified third at the ACC Championship meet. The group of McQueen Jr., Hussey, Ricketts and Brown has officially held the school record since April 4th, when they clocked in at 39.40 at Florida Relays, showcasing their improvement over the course of the season. Thomas McDonough and Jaden Shelton will serve as alternates.
About an hour and a half later, Malik Ricketts will compete in the men's 400-meter prelims, which are scheduled for 5:41 p.m. PT/ 8:41 p.m. ET. Ricketts is in the first heat. Out of the 24 athletes competing in the event, nine will move on. The top two individuals in each heat and then the next three fastest student-athletes will compete for a national championship on Friday. Ricketts recorded a time of 45.63, just shy of his 45.45 best at the East Regional quarterfinal.
Eva Baldursdottir will have to wait until Saturday to compete in the women's high jump. The competition will start at 5:30 p.m. PT/ 8:30 p.m. ET. Baldursdottir tied for second place at ACC Championships, setting a then outdoor personal best mark of 1.80-meters. Baldursdottir would beat her best at the East Regional, leaping 1.82-meters to secure a spot in Eugene. On Saturday, the bar will begin at a height of 1.74-meters before progressing to 1.79-meters, 1.84-meters, 1.87-meters + 3cm.
