
Baldursdottir, Ricketts, Men’s 4x100 Relay Punch Tickets to NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE – Eva Baldursdottir in the high jump, Malik Ricketts in the 400-meter race and the men's 4x100 relay team had successful outings at the NCAA East Regional meet, as they qualified for NCAA Championships.
WEDNESDAY RECAP
In the first event of the NCAA East Regional, the men's hammer throw, Daniel Amaya threw for 64.41 meters to finish 15th.
Samuell Guzman competed next in the javelin throw, recording a mark of 62.10 meters.
After a lengthy rain delay, Mikhi Anderson and Jaden Shelton got the track events started down the home straightaway in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Anderson crossed the finish line in 14.39 while Shelton clocked in at 13.86. Shelton was tied for 15th overall and advanced to the quarterfinal round on Friday.
Darren McQueen Jr. and Nigel Hussey, competing in the 100-meter dash, recorded times of 10.40 and 10.58, respectively. McQueen Jr. advanced to the quarterfinal as he was tied for 21st overall with his time.
Malik Ricketts earned a big Q in the men's 400-meter dash to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday as well. Ricketts placed third in his heat with a time of 46.09
ACC Champion Devin Nugent won his heat in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.27. Nugent was 4th overall and automatically advanced to the quarterfinals.
Nigel Hussey, competing in his second event of the evening, finished 26th in the 200-meter race with a time of 21.21
THURSDAY RECAP
Senior Caleia Johnson took 42nd in the women's 400-meter race with a 54.02 pace. After another lightning delay, women's 400-meter hurdler Logan Neely claimed 36th place in the event, clearing the hurdles in 59.09.
FRIDAY RECAP
The women's shot put, which was moved from Thursday to Friday due to the weather, featured two throwers from Pitt, Niya Crawford and Norrah Lemongo. In her first NCAA Regional, Crawford collected 42nd place with a 14.26-meter toss. Lemongo, who finished 37th at last year's regional meet, moved up to 20th place this year as she threw for 15.97-meters.
The men's 4x100 relay team of Darren McQueen Jr., Nigel Hussey, Malik Ricketts and Stephon Brown set a new school record en route to punching a bid to the 2025 NCAA Championships with their time of 39.12. The foursome beat their previous school record of 39.26 set earlier this year at ACC Championships.
In the men's 110-meter hurdles quarterfinal, Jaden Shelton recorded a time of 13.69 and finished 17th while Darren McQueen Jr. stopped the clock in 10.32 to place 23rd in the men's 100-meter quarterfinal.
Malik Ricketts, who is a member of the men's 4x100 relay team, also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the men's 400-meter race. Ricketts was 10th in the quarterfinal round with a time of 45.63.
Devin Nugent was unfortunately unable to advance to NCAA Championships in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Nugent's 50.43 14th place time was just shy of breaking the top 12 in the event.
The ACC Championship men's 4x400 relay quartet of Malik Ricketts, Nigel Hussey, Thomas McDonough and Devin Nugent ran out of steam, as they were about three seconds off their season best time. The group combined for a 3:06.59 effort and took 18th in the event.
SATURDAY RECAP
Eva Baldursdottir punched Pitt's final ticket to Eugene on the final day of action. Baldursdottir leaped to a personal best 1.82-meters in the women's high jump to finish in a tie for 4th place. Baldursdottir was one of seven athletes in the field to achieve the height. Teammate Alesia Rengle bowed out at the 1.74-meter mark.
The women's 4x400 relay team of Caleia Johnson, Faith Dennis, Jana Bruses and Logan Neely produced a 3:39.73 pace to close out the 2025 NCAA East Regional.
