
Devin Nugent, Men's 4x400 Relay Bring Home ACC Championship Gold

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Pittsburgh men's track and field team crowned an outdoor ACC Champion for the first time since 2022 as Devin Nugent won the men's 400-meter hurdles at the 2025 ACC Championships. The men's 4x400 relay team won gold in the final event of the meet, marking the first relay victory in program history at the ACC Outdoor Championships for Pitt.
Nugent excelled in the men's 400-meter race, running sub-50 seconds for the first time of his career with a personal best 49.52 to earn first place. Nugent's time is a Kentner Stadium facility record and currently the 8th best time in the country. A native of Abington, Pennsylvania, Nugent is the second Panther to win the 400-meter hurdles at the conference championship meet. Desmond Palmer went back-to-back in the event in 2015 and 2016.
The men's 4x400 relay team went wire to wire in the meet finale. Malik Ricketts got out in the lead and handed it off to Nigel Hussey, who held the lead for the second lap. Thomas McDonough ran a split of 45.81 to get the baton off to Devin Nugent for the anchor leg. Nugent kicked down the home stretch to bring in the title in 3:03.96, helping set another facility record. The championship clinching time is the third best time in program history and ranks 22nd in the NCAA this season.
The men's team tied for their highest outdoor team finish in program history at 7th with 61 points. The women's group tallied 23 points for 13th place.
THURSDAY RECAP
In the first event of the 2025 ACC Championships, freshman Samuell Guzman scored two points for the men's team with his seventh-place finish in the men's javelin. Guzman connected for a throw of 60.76-meters on his best attempt of the day.
Senior Daniel Amaya collected a fourth-place finish in the men's hammer throw. Amaya continued to progress throughout the competition as he beat his personal best three times. Entering the meet, Amaya's personal best was 63.63-meters. On his second attempt of the afternoon, Amaya amassed a 63.75-meter mark. He bested that mark by one centimeter, 63.76-meters on his fourth try. To conclude the meet, the Colombia native put it all together for a massive 65.63-meter throw.
Norrah Lemongo recorded a personal best in the hammer throw with her best mark of 56.15-meters. Lemongo was 12th overall.
Devin Nugent won his heat in the men's 400-meter hurdles preliminary round. Nugent crossed the finish line in 50.76 to automatically qualify for the finals on Saturday.
Caleia Johnson secured a personal best in the women's 200-meter dash. Johnson's speed of 23.79 earned 15th place.
Thomas McDonough was fast enough to qualify for the men's 200-meter final with his personal best time of 20.97. McDonough was sixth in the preliminary round and is now sixth in program history.
Senior Finn Walsh ran a personal best in the men's 1500-meter race. Walsh finished 11th overall with a time of 3:42.46 and will conclude his track career holding the second-best time in the event in program history.
Winnie Incorvaia and Luke Miller both placed 25th in the women's and men's 10K with times of 36:24.64 and 30:20.74, respectively.
FRIDAY RECAP
On the second day of competition, all three Panthers competing in the men's 110-meter hurdles, Jaden Shelton, Mikhi Anderson and Antwan James, recorded personal bests. James crossed the line in 14.19, Anderson in 13.91 and Shelton in 13.63. Shelton was fourth overall and advanced to the final. Anderson, who claimed 9th, just missed out on qualifying for the final.
Caleia Johnson on the women's side, and Malik Ricketts on the men's side advanced to the 400-meter final tomorrow evening. Johnson clocked in at 53.20 for seventh place and Ricketts grabbed a new personal best time of 46.25 for fifth place. With that time, Ricketts jumped from eighth in program history to fourth.
In the short sprints, Endeyah Lane ran a personal best time in the women's 100-meter dash, 11.83.
Darren McQueen Jr., Nigel Hussey and Stephon Brown all solidified spots in the men's 100-meter final. McQueen Jr. finished fourth and Hussey and Brown rounded out the group in the seven and eight spots.
The women's shot put duo of Niya Crawford and Norrah Lemongo put the women's team on the board as they combined for seven points in the competition. Lemongo led the way for Pitt with a mark of 16.55-meters which resulted in a fourth-place finish. Crawford set an outdoor personal best with her toss of 15.86-meters, which came on her sixth and final throw of the series.
In his men's 3K steeplechase debut, Luke Simpson finished 13th in 9:12.73.
SATURDAY RECAP
The third and final day of ACC action began with Eva Baldursdottir and Alesia Rengle each capturing medals in the women's high jump. Baldursdottir leaped a personal best 1.80-meters in a tie for second place, receiving first team All-ACC honors in the process. Baldursdottir's best is good for the second-best height in program history, behind only Najuma Fletcher's 1.89-meter school record set in 1995. Rengle reached a height of 1.77-meters for fourth place and second team All-ACC status.
Mikhi Anderson tied for 11th place with a height of 2.01-meters in the men's high jump.
Niya Crawford delivered once again for the Panthers. In her second event of the weekend, Crawford earned Pitt a point in the women's discus with her personal best, 46.60-meter, eighth place performance.
Pitt refreshed their school record in the men's 4x100 relay en route to a bronze medal and third place podium performance. The quartet of Darren McQueen Jr., Nigel Hussey, Malik Ricketts and Stephon Brown improved upon their previous best time of 39.40 in the exciting race around the track.
After competing in the preliminary heat of the 110-meter hurdles a day prior, Jaden Shelton returned to the track to take silver in the men's 110-meter hurdles final as he narrowly edged out the third-place runner, crossing the finish line in 13.74 (13.739).
Malik Ricketts ran a blistering 45.45 in the men's 400-meter race on his way to fifth place and Second Team All-ACC honors. Ricketts, who ran a personal best and the program's fourth best time in the preliminary round, moved up to second all-time in program history with his new best. Ricketts is now behind only school record holder, Brycen Spratling's 2014 pace of 45.09. On the women's side, Caleia Johnson secured sixth place and Second Team All-ACC honors in the women's 400-meter race with a time of 53.40.
The Panthers had three of eight runners in the 100-meter final: Darren McQueen Jr., Stephon Brown and Nigel Hussey. McQueen and Brown went 3-4 with times of 10.23 and 10.28, respectively. Hussey followed in sixth with a time of 10.34. All three times were wind-legal personal bests as the three men are behind the 10.04 time recorded by Lee McRae in 1988.
Thomas McDonough ran a 200-meter personal best for the second consecutive day. McDonough sprinted through the line in 20.94 for 7th in the final. McDonough owns the third fastest time in program history.
UP NEXT
NCAA East Regional Qualifiers will travel to Jacksonville, Florida for the East First Round. The top 48 individual athletes and the top 24 relay teams from the east will to compete for a spot in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. North Florida will play host for the regional meet, which runs May 28-31.
