PITTSBURGH — Pitt track and field standout Devin Nugent and pitcher Ryan Reed of the baseball team have been named PNC Achievers of the Week following standout performances in their respective sports.
Nugent repeated as champion in the 400-meter hurdles at the Penn Relays, clocking a personal-best 50.36 seconds. He also won the event in 2024 with a time of 50.84. A native of Abington, PA, Nugent currently ranks first in the ACC and 17th nationally in the event. He becomes just the third Panther to win an individual event in back-to-back years at the historic meet, joining Pitt Hall of Famers Lee McRae (100-meter dash, 1986–87) and Allison Williams-Murphy (100-meter hurdles, 1993–94).
Reed tossed seven strong innings to lead Pitt past No. 8 North Carolina on Saturday, helping even the weekend series at one game apiece. The junior left-hander struck out seven, allowed just two runs on four hits and notched his fourth win of the season. Reed also eclipsed the 100-strikeout mark for his career, finishing the outing with 105. It marked the third time this season he's pitched at least seven innings.
