Panthers Open Series With 6-0 Win Over Georgia Tech

PITTSBURGH – Powered by a standout 2-for-3 performance from graduate infielder Kaitlyn Brannstrom, the Pitt softball team knocked off ACC foe Georgia Tech, 6-0, in the 2025 home opener Friday evening at Vartabedian Field.

The series-opening victory marked the Panthers' (11-16, 1-6 ACC) first ACC win of the 2025 campaign. Additionally, Friday's victory marked Pitt's first win over Georgia Tech (17-12, 5-5 ACC) since April 14, 2023.

Individually, the Panthers were led by Brannstrom as she tallied two hits – including a double to left that scored three in the bottom of the sixth. Senior catcher Amanda Ramirez also had a solid day – recording the lone home run.

On the mound, senior pitcher Kyra Pittman pitched a complete game, shutting out the Yellow Jackets and allowing just four hits.

After holding Georgia Tech scoreless in the top of the first, Pitt jumped out to an early lead as Brannstrom doubled down the left field line, scoring senior Kylie Griggs. Two batters later, the Panthers extended their advantage (2-0) on a Tieley Vaughan double to right field.

Neither side plated any runs over the following stretch as Pitt maintained its 2-0 lead, going into the bottom of the sixth.

Ramirez then blasted a solo shot to left center, doubling the Panthers' edge. After Pitt loaded the bases, Brannstrom rocketed a double down the left field line – scoring three and expanding Pitt's advantage to 6-0.

In the top of the seventh, Pittman retired three of the final four batters to secure the 6-0 victory.
