
Panthers Head to UNC Greensboro for Weekend Series

PITTSBURGH – The Panthers make their second-consecutive trip to the state of North Carolina as they visit the University of North Carolina Greensboro for a three-game set this weekend.
Pitt is 5-2 to start the year and has won each of their first two series this season.
TOP OF THE ORDER
• The Panthers begin their eleven-day road trip with a weekend series at UNC Greensboro. It will be the first time the two schools meet on the diamond in their histories.
• Pitt is 5-2 to start their 2025 campaign and has won each of their first two series.
• Left-handed starting pitchers Patrick Gardner and Ryan Reed combined for 13 scoreless innings last weekend against Monmouth enroute to a series win.
• Senior first baseman Luke Cantwell was named the fifth-best first baseman in college baseball heading into the 2025 season by D1Baseball. Cantwell is hitting .375 with 9 hits, 6 RBI, 5 doubles and a triple. He leads the ACC in walks with 12.
• The Panthers' offense ranks 3rd in the ACC in hit by pitches and 5th in the base on balls.
• Sophomore third baseman Ryan Zuckerman hit a walk-off home run on Opening Day to lift Pitt over Eastern Michigan. The Panthers erased a six-run deficit as Zuckerman hit the second walk-off home run of his young career.
• Pitt's defense has turned 12 double plays through seven games this season, they rank first in the country.
• Transfer outfielder Lorenzo Carrier has recorded at least two hits in four of Pitt's seven games so far this season. He is hitting .370 with 10 hits, five RBIs, two home runs and a .630 slugging percentage.
• Pitt returns 14 lettermen from last season, including 3/4's of their starting infield in 1B Luke Cantwell, SS Jake Kendro and 3B Ryan Zuckerman.
• The Panthers added 22 newcomers to campus for the 2025 season. Among them are 16 transfers and 6 freshmen. Per 64Analytics, the Panthers landed a top- 20 transfer portal recruiting class.
• Last season, Pitt saw an uptick in offensive output in its first year under the direction of Brandon Romans and Chris Collazo. The Panthers scored their most runs (382) and had their second-highest team batting average (.282) since 2013.
