PITTSBURGH – After delivering impressive performances on the diamond last week, softball's Kyra Pittman and baseball's Ryan Reed have been named Pitt's PNC Achievers of the Week.
Pittman anchored the Panthers in the circle, earning two wins and a save in four appearances at the SpaceU Classic. She led the Panthers to a win over Quinnipiac, recording her second complete-game shutout of the season. Pittman allowed four hits with a career-high six strikeouts while issuing one walk against the Bobcats. The Cumberland, MD, native earned the save the next day against Quinnipiac with another shutout inning of relief. Pittman also secured the win on Sunday against FGCU, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk over 7.0 innings.
Reed, a left-handed pitcher, earned the first win of his career in what was arguably the best start of his career in Pitt's series-clinching win on Saturday. Reed threw seven innings of shutout baseball, lifting the Panthers to a series win over Monmouth in Cary, NC. The junior from Ridley Park, PA, allowed just four hits while striking out four across those seven scoreless frames. He became the first pitcher in the ACC this season to throw seven shutout innings.
