Pitt Hosts Bucknell in Home Opener

PITTSBURGH – The Panthers open up their 2025 home schedule on Tuesday afternoon when they host Bucknell at 3 PM at Charles L. Cost Field.
Pitt is coming off of a series win over Monmouth last weekend in Cary, NC. They have won their first two series this season and are off to 5-1 for the second consecutive year.
After Saturday's series-clinching win, the Panthers were ranked first in RPI. Despite dropping Sunday's series finale, they are still currently in the top five at number five.
NOTES
- Dating back to last season, the Panthers have won six of their last seven home games.
- Pitt has started 5-1 in each of the last two seasons. Their 5-1 start this year has them ranked 5th in RPI.
- Senior first baseman Luke Cantwell was named the fifth-best first baseman in college baseball heading into the 2025 season by D1Baseball. Cantwell is hitting .450 with 9 hits, 6 RBI, 5 doubles and a triple so far this season. He leads the ACC in walks with 10.
- The Panthers' offense ranks 5th in the ACC in hit by pitches and 6th in the base on balls.
- Pitt's defense has turned 11 double plays through six games this season, they rank first in the ACC and second nationally.
- Transfer outfielder Lorenzo Carrier has recorded at least two hits in four of Pitt's six games so far this year. Carrier is hitting .435 with 10 hits, five RBIs, two home runs and a .739 slugging percentage.
- Sophomore third baseman Ryan Zuckerman hit a walk-off home run on Opening Day to lift Pitt over Eastern Michigan. The Panthers erased a six-run deficit before walking it off on Opening Day in Port Charlotte, FL. It was Zuckerman's second walk-off home run of his young career. He walked off Washington in Corpus Christi, TX last February.
- Left-handed starting pitchers Patrick Gardner and Ryan Reed combined for 13 scoreless innings last weekend against Monmouth en route to a series win. Gardner started Friday's game for the Panthers and allowed just one hit through six shutout innings. Reed managed to top that performance by going out on Saturday and throwing seven shutout innings against Monmouth. He was the first ACC pitcher this season to throw seven scoreless innings.
- Pitt's Aidan Coleman will make his first start of the season on Tuesday. He earned three wins over his 10 midweek starts last year.
- The Panthers added 22 newcomers to campus for the 2025 season. Among them are 16 transfers and 6 freshmen. Per 64Analytics, the Panthers landed a top- 20 transfer portal recruiting class.
All home games at Charles L. Cost Field this spring are free of admission.
Fans will enter through the upper gate at the Petersen Sports Complex when attending baseball games this spring and will not need to show a ticket. Seats will be first come, first serve.
