THE OPENING TIP
-
Pitt returns to action Friday by hosting Longwood inside Petersen Events Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. with Jason Earle and former Panther Nelly Cummings (older brother of current Pitt guard Brandin Cummings) calling the action on ACCNX.
-
The game will also be broadcast on the Pitt Radio Network (flagship 93.7 The Fan) with Bill Hillgrove (play-by-play) and Curtis Aiken (analysis) on the broadcast.
-
Pitt and Longwood are meeting for the first time in the history of the two programs. However, the Panthers are 6-0 all-time against members of the Big South Conference, such as Longwood. In fact, Pitt beat both Radford and Gardner-Webb for the conference just one year ago.
-
Both Pitt and Longwood enter Friday's contest at 1-0 on the season with double-digit victories in their season openers. Pitt defeated Youngstown State Monday night 74-59, while Longwood beat NCAA Division III opponent Mary Baldwin 92-55.
-
Pitt is looking to get out to a 2-0 start for the third consecutive season. A year ago, the Panthers won their first six contests and Pitt was 4-0 to start the 2023-24 season.
-
In the season opening win over Youngstown State, Pitt dominated on the boards, winning the rebound battle 46-24. In similar fashion, Longwood held a 48-21 advantage on the boards in its win over Mary Baldwin.
