PITTSBURGH – The No. 4 Pitt volleyball team (24-4, 16-2 ACC) closed out its final match in the Fitzgerald Field House in dominant fashion, sweeping Boston College (16-14, 5-13 ACC) 25-16, 25-17, 25-18. Olivia Babcock led all hitters with 13 kills, while Brooke Mosher paced the offense with 36 assists as the Panthers hit .330 on the afternoon.
The Panthers and Eagles traded points until 5-5 when Pitt went on a 10-3 run behind the serve of Marina Pezelj. Consecutive kills from Pezelj and Abbey Emch forced Boston College into its first timeout trailing 20-12. The Eagles used another timeout at 23-16, but an ace from Mosher followed by a Babcock kill sealed the 25-16 set win.
Mallorie Meyer served Pitt to an early 7-2 run in the second set, and the Eagles called a timeout to slow down the momentum. Boston College came within two at 14-12, but a 6-2 run from the Panthers prompted the Eagles to call their final timeout at 20-14. Three late kills from Sophia Gregoire helped the Panthers close out the frame, 25-17.
Pitt maintained control in the third, carrying a 15-10 lead into the media timeout. Boston College responded with a run of its own to cut the margin to 17-15, prompting a Pitt timeout. Kills from Mosher, Babcock and Gregoire pushed the Panthers ahead 20-16, and despite another Eagles timeout, Pitt finished the job with a 25-18 win to complete the sweep.
The Panthers now turn their attention to a top-10 showdown, hosting No. 7 Louisville at the Petersen Events Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The match will air on ACC Network.
