THE OPENING TIP

Pitt and UCF square off Thursday night in Daytona Beach, Fla. at Ocean Center for the Skyscanner Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper. Both teams come into the contest at 4-1 on the season coming off of a Monday night win.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN2 with Rich Hollenberg and Miles Simon calling the action.
The game will also be broadcast on the Pitt Radio Network (flagship 93.7 The Fan) with Jeff Hathhorn (play-by-play) and Curtis Aiken (analysis) on the broadcast.
Pitt and UCF have met just once before -- in the 2004 NCAA Tournament inside the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisc. The Panthers won the first round contest in a slugfest, leading 22-18 at the half and going on to a 53-44 win. Pitt went on to the regional semifinal that year and finished with a record of 31-5. Carl Krauser led Pitt with 20 points in the victory over UCF and Chris Taft had 16 rebounds.
Including two exhibition games, Pitt has won six home games already this season, but the Panthers lost their only game away from Petersen Events Center, a 71-49 decision against West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl.
Pitt went 1-2 in neutral site games a year ago, beating LSU in the Greenbrier Tip-Off at Colonial Hall before a loss to Wisconsin. The Panthers also lost to Notre Dame on a neutral floor in the ACC Tournament.
With a win, Pitt would start 5-1 or better for the third consecutive season.
