Pitt Edged by UCF in Legends Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – UCF grabbed 16 offensive rebounds and scored 24 second chance points to defeat Pitt, 77-67, Thursday night at the Ocean Center as part of the Skyscanner Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper.
UCF knocked down a three-pointer at the buzzer to close the first half and take a 38-36 lead into the locker room. The Knights went on a 13-3 run to open the second half, and the Panthers were never able to get closer than seven points the rest of the game.
UCF improves to 5-1 with the win and Pitt falls to 4-2 on the season.
In the first half, Pitt trailed 27-21 when the Panthers went on a 13-2 run, highlighted by nine points and an assist from Barry Dunning, Jr. The Knights rallied, though, and got the lead on a late three-pointer.
Cameron Corhen led the Panthers with 15 points in the opening half and finished with his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Damarco Minor added 14 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Dunning came off the bench to score 14 points, adding six rebounds and two blocked shots.
UCF outrebounded Pitt, 37-28, behind those 16 offensive rebounds. The Knights added 46 points in the paint, shooting 52 percent from the field.
Pitt shot just 39 percent from the field but made 18-of-21 free-throws and blocked five shots.
Pitt will return home to continue the Legends Classic as they host Quinnipiac Sunday at 5 p.m. The Panthers are 4-0 in the Petersen Events Center this season.
