No. 3 Pitt Ends California Swing With Win Over Cal

BERKELEY – The No. 3 Pitt volleyball team (22-4, 14-2 ACC) wrapped up its California road swing with a 3-1 win (22-25, 25-13, 25-21, 25-12) over Cal (7-19, 4-12 ACC) on Sunday afternoon. Sophia Gregoire recorded a career-high 20 kills with zero errors on a .690 hitting percentage, while redshirt senior setter Brooke Mosher reached her 3,000th career assist in the match.
Cal opened the match strong, forcing Pitt to take two early timeouts down 6-3 and 9-4. The Panthers battled back to tie the set at 19-19 but couldn't complete the comeback, dropping set one 25-22.
Pitt controlled set two from the start, prompting a Cal timeout at 8-3. A pair of aces from Abbey Emch and Gregoire, along with two kills from Blaire Bayless, forced the Golden Bears to burn their final timeout down 13-5. The Panthers cruised to a dominant 25-13 win to even the match.
Pitt carried its momentum into the third set as Cal called timeouts trailing 8-3 and 17-12. The Golden Bears made a late push, and Pitt used a timeout with a 21-18 lead. Three Pitt kills and a Cal attacking error secured the set for the Panthers, 25-21.
In the fourth, strong serving from Mosher and Mallorie Meyer put Pitt firmly in control as Cal called a timeout down 10-3. The Golden Bears couldn't recover, and the Panthers closed out the match with a commanding 25-12 victory.
