Pitt Diving Ready to Host Knockout Showcase

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt diving program returns home to host Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne in a knockout style meet at Trees Pool on Friday, Nov. 14. The preliminary rounds will begin at 4 p.m. while the knockout bracket will kick off at 5:30 p.m.
Meet Format
1. Preliminary / Seeding Round – 4:00 PM
All divers compete in this round.
Scores from this round determine seeding for the bracket:
1st seed
2nd seed
3rd seed
4th seed
2. Knock Out Bracket – 5:30 PM
Based on seeding, divers move into head-to-head semifinal matches:
Semifinals
Match 1: 1st seed vs 4th seed
Match 2: 2nd seed vs 3rd seed
The winners of these matches advance to the Final.
3. Match Play Format (Rounds Within Each Match)
Each match is played round-by-round between two divers:
Each round, both divers perform one dive.
The winner of that round earns 1 point.
The dive of the next round is performed at random selection
The first diver to reach 3 points wins the match and moves on to the next stage.
4. Finals
The two semifinal winners face off in the Final Match.
The same match-play format applies (first to 3 points wins).
The winner of the Final is crowned the Knockout Champion!
Last Time Out
Pitt swimming and diving team closed out the weekend with a sweep over Akron and Miami (OH), highlighted by four first-place finishes in diving and 15 wins in the pool.
On the boards, Pitt's Jocelyn Brooks led a sweep of the top three spots in the women's 3-meter diving with 303.95 points, followed by Mariana Osorio Mendoza (300.30) and Jess Vega (300.20). Ayla Debowsky captured the 1-meter title with 289.30 points. On the men's side, Chase Marafioto earned first in the 1-meter dive with 320.35 points, while Noah Bernard set a pool record in the 3-meter with 395.20 points.

Meet Information
Friday's competition will kick off at 4 p.m. at Trees Pool for the preliminary round, and 5:30 p.m. for the knockout bracket. The meet will be livestreamed on ACCNX.
