THE OPENING TIP
- It's the 192nd meeting of the Backyard Brawl as Pitt goes on the road for the first time this season to face West Virginia Thursday night at 6 p.m. Both teams enter the contest at 3-0 in 2025-26. The game will be broadcast on FS1 with Connor Onion and Miles Simon calling the action.
- The game will also be broadcast on the Pitt Radio Network (flagship 93.7 The Fan) with Bill Hillgrove (play-by-play) and Curtis Aiken (analysis) on the broadcast.
- The all-time series between Pitt and West Virginia dates back to 1906 (the two schools played in both 1904 and 1905 when basketball was not yet a varsity sport at Pitt). Twenty-five of the 191 games have been decided by two points or fewer, but the last six meetings have all been decided by double digits. Pitt has won the last two contests by an average of 20.5 points per game.
- The two teams have played 11 overtime games in series history, including an epic triple overtime affair in 2010, won by the Panthers 98-95. West Virginia, though, holds a 27-11 edge all-time inside Hope Coliseum.
- Pitt and West Virginia have won five of their combined six games by double digits to start the 2025-26 season. The only game decided by less than 10 points was WVU's 73-65 win over Campbell this past Thursday.
- Pitt is looking to get out to a 4-0 start for the third consecutive season. A year ago, the Panthers won their first six contests and Pitt was 4-0 to start the 2023-24 season.
