Pitt will look to keep its momentum rolling Saturday night when it travels north to face longtime rival Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome. The Panthers are coming off one of their most impressive wins in recent memory, a 34-31 road upset of No. 25 Florida State. The matchup will mark the first time Pitt has played in the Dome since 2021 and continues one of the longest uninterrupted series in college football. The Panthers and Orange have met every season since 1955, spanning their years as independents, Big East foes, and now ACC rivals.
The Panthers enter the contest riding a wave of breakout performances. True freshman quarterback Mason Heintschel has been exceptional in his first two starts, surpassing 320 passing yards in both outings while adding a dynamic rushing element. Running back Desmond Reid made a statement in his return last week with 200 total yards and two touchdown grabs, while freshman Ja’Kyrian Turner delivered two rushing scores to seal the upset in Tallahassee. Linebacker Kyle Louis anchored the defense with an 11-tackle, 1.5-TFL performance, setting the tone for a physical night against the Seminoles.
Pitt has historically controlled the series, winning 19 of the past 23 meetings, including a decisive 41-13 victory last season in Pittsburgh. The Orange have traditionally played tough at home, but the Panthers’ recent road success and explosive offensive form give them confidence heading into another primetime matchup. With a chance to build on their midseason surge and continue climbing the ACC standings, Pitt will look to extend its dominance over its oldest active rival.
