PITTSBURGH — Pitt legend Larry Fitzgerald has been named the 2025 Heisman Humanitarian Award recipient, the Heisman Trophy Trust announced Wednesday. He will be honored at the Heisman Legends Brunch on Dec. 14 in New York City.
A unanimous All-American and 2003 Heisman Trophy finalist, Fitzgerald starred for the Panthers from 2002–03, totaling 161 receptions for 2,677 yards and a Pitt-record 34 touchdowns. His record-setting Pitt career launched a 17-year NFL run with the Arizona Cardinals, where he became one of the game's all-time greats and most respected ambassadors.
Off the field, Fitzgerald has made an enduring impact through The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation, which supports youth education and breast cancer awareness—causes inspired by his late mother, Carol. The Foundation provides literacy programs, scholarships, and community outreach initiatives that have benefited thousands across the U.S. and abroad.
"I'm honored by this recognition from The Heisman Trophy Trust," Fitzgerald said. "This award reinforces the importance of our mission to empower children and support families affected by breast cancer."
Fitzgerald becomes the 19th recipient of the Heisman Humanitarian Award, joining a distinguished group that includes Mia Hamm, David Robinson, and Mike Krzyzewski.
