LOS ANGELES, CA – Pitt women's soccer earned their second non-conference win in a row Thursday afternoon by defeating the Loyola Marymount Lions in Los Angeles, California. The Panthers used a second half attack to take the 3-0 victory away from home.
Pitt controlled the ball for most of the opening 45 minutes, but was unable to create a dangerous chance in front of the opposing goal. Ellie Breech was mostly untested in the first half and the Panthers outshot the Lions 7-5, while also owning a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
The halftime message from the Pitt staff seemed to pay off, as the visitors continued to build the pressure until finally cracking through. As it has been often already in 2024, Sarah Schupansky provided attacking threat after attacking threat until sending a ball into the box in the 63rd minute that freshman Rylee Keeley headed home for her first goal as a Panther. Pressure was the name of the game again around 15 minutes later as Samiah Phiri hung around the LMU defense and forced an error that led to an easy goal past the Lions' keeper to make it 2-0 in favor of the blue and gold. Schupansky did what she does best again in the 82nd minute by providing another assist, this time off of a corner. Freshman Emily Graeca became the second, first-time scorer in the match for Pitt as she found a way to put it into the back of the net to extend the lead to three.
Breech had to make three second half saves to preserve a shutout, her second of the season, and give the Panthers win number four of the campaign.
