PITTSBURGH – Pitt sharp-shooter Blake Hinson will sign a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to league sources. Hinson will look to join former Pitt teammate Carlton Carrington, who was selected No. 14 overall by the Washington Wizards, on an NBA roster for the 2024-25 season.
Two-way contracts allow for a player to play for both the NBA and the G League while being under the control of an NBA franchise for the duration of the season. These contracts are limited to two per team and can only be given to players with less than four years of NBA experience. Players on a two-way contract do not count against an NBA team's 15-man roster.
Hinson, a First Team All-ACC and NABC All-District 2 Second Team selection in 2024, averaged 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while scoring 20 or more points 15 times. He made a school record 110 three-point field goals, in leading Pitt to a 22-11 record (12-8 ACC), fourth-place league finish, and an ACC Tournament Semifinal appearance. Hinson shot a career-best 42.1 percent from three-point range and finished tied for 11th in the ACC record books in three-point field goals.
Hinson holds three of the top seven games in program history for most threes, including a school record nine three-pointers in wins over West Virginia and Louisville during the 2023-24 campaign. His 41-point outburst against Louisville is tied for the third most points in a game by a Panther and is a Pitt Petersen Events Center record.
The Deltona, Fla., native left his mark in just two seasons at Pitt, becoming the fourth fastest player to score 1,000 career points (61 games), while totaling 1,159 points (16.8 ppg.), 363 rebounds (5.3 rpg.), and 207 three-point field goals in 69 total games. He finished his Pitt career ranked 30th in scoring and seventh in three-point field goals, and sixth in three-point percentage (.401). Hinson also set a school record for threes per game (3.0 3pg.) and joined Michael Young (2016, 2017) as the only Panthers to garner All-ACC accolades in multiple seasons.
Hinson also received the 2024 Panther Award and is now honored on Pitt's prestigious Varsity Walk.
