Pitt Drops Rubber Match to North Carolina

PITTSBURGH – Pitt dropped to North Carolina, 8-1, in the series finale rubber match at Vartabedian Field Sunday afternoon. The Panthers were held to one run on six hits and committed four errors.

Kylie Griggs hit a leadoff double and Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez hit a single to left field to put the Panthers up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. The Tar Heels evened the score in the top of the second inning after loading the bases and a Carsyn Snead single brought in a run.

The Tar Heels took the lead in the top of the third inning with a solo home run from Abby Settlemyre home run. The Panthers were held to two hits through the next four innings. The Panthers picked up three hits in the bottom of the seventh but weren't able to convert a run. North Carolina plated five runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead, 8-1.

Kenna Rae Dark was awarded the win and Olivia Stefanoni recorded the loss for the Panthers. Stefanoni allowed three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks, over 4.1 innings.

The Panthers travel to Ohio State, Wednesday for a midweek matchup against the Buckeyes at 6 p.m. The Panthers return to Vartabedian Field Friday as they host Syracuse for the final home series of the season.
