Compson Has 3-Home Run Game; Panthers Blast Six Homers to Sweep Day Two of FGCU Classic

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Cami Compson went 3-for-3 with three home runs against Purdue as the Panthers combined for six homers to sweep the second day of the FGCU Spring Break Classic. Pitt defeated Purdue, 9-1, on a walk-off home run from Kylie Griggs and defeated Western Michigan, 6-2, Saturday evening.
The Panthers combined to score 15 runs on 18 hits in two games, with eight of those runs being scored in the first inning. Compson finished the day going 4-for-6 with three home runs, eight RBI, and four runs scored. Griggs went a combined 3-for-6 with two home runs and three RBI.
Pitt 9, Purdue 1
The Panthers drew three straight walks in the bottom of the first to load the bases. Cami Compson came up to bat and hit a grand slam, her third homer on the season, to give Pitt an early 4-0 lead.
Compson followed up with another home run to right field in just her second at bat, putting the Panthers up 5-0. This is the second consecutive game a Panther has recorded a multi-home run game against the Boilermakers. Kat Rodriguez also had two home runs in the tournament opener against Purdue on Friday.
Compson hit her third home run of the day, a two-run shot to left center, to become the first Panther to record a three-run homer game since Shelby Pickett accomplished the feat in 2016.
Desirae Martinez ledoff the bottom of the sixth with a single as Kylie Griggs called game with a two-run, walk-off homer to end the game in a run-rule victory with a final score of 9-1.
Adriana Romano (1-2) earned the win after allowing just one earned run on five hits with two strikeouts and issuing three walks, over 6.0 innings.
Pitt 6, Western Michigan 2
The first three Panther batters loaded the bases off a Rodriguez single, a Macy Hamilton single, and Amanda "Tuta" Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice. Compson gave the Panthers and early 1-0 lead with an RBI single, recording a hit in four consecutive at bats.
Rachael Fuerst joined the home run party with a three-run homer to left field, making the score 4-0 in the middle of the first inning. Kyra Pittman retired three-straight Bronco batters to send the Panthers back to bat.
Rodriguez hit a triple down the right field line and eventually scored on Hamilton's single to third base. The Panthers scored one last run in the top of the fifth with a solo homer to left field, her second of the day to make the score 6-2.

Pitt wraps up the FGCU Classic with a single game tomorrow against FGCU (12:30 p.m. – ESPN+). The Panthers will travel to FIU for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, March 12 (2 p.m. – ESPN+)
