DURHAM, NC – The Panthers face the Duke Blue Devils one day sooner than originally planned, for a Friday afternoon ACC matchup at Koskinen Stadium. Pitt and Duke were scheduled to face off Saturday in Durham but due to potential weather issues, the game was moved up. Opening draw will be at 4 PM.
Duke owns the 2-0 series lead over Pitt with one win in North Carolina and one in Pennsylvania.
Friday's game is the second straight on the road for the Panthers, as they fell to Liberty 20-17 Wednesday afternoon. Jill Fenech set the single-game draw control record for the second straight game, with 12 as the new standard. Emily Coughlin also had a career day, with a career-high four goals, plus three ground balls, two caused turnovers and five draw controls. Jenna Hendrickson and Sydney Naylor each recorded three goals and an assist and Madigan Lublin put in a solid offensive performance with one goal and three assists. Six Panthers caused turnovers Wednesday, including two a piece by the previously mentioned Coughlin and Megan Sheridan.
Duke sits at 3-4 so far in 2024, most recently dropping an ACC game to No. 4 Syracuse 15-8. Katie DeSimone is second nationally with 31 goals and seventh in the country with a 4.43 goals per game average. Two Blue Devil goalies have played in six out of seven games and combined to make 58 saves with a .394 save percentage.
Pitt will have the week off from competition after Friday's contest before traveling to Charlottesville, VA to face the Virginia Cavaliers on March 16. Follow all the Pitt Lacrosse action 24/7 on Instagram and X: @Pitt_WLAX.
