Panthers Fall at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Panthers fell to the Nittany Lions 10-1 in University Park on Tuesday evening.
Josh Spiegel recorded Pitt's only hit of the night in his return to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Before transferring back home to play at Pitt, Spiegel spent three years of his collegiate career at Penn State. Dom Popa extended his on-base streak to 25 games with his two walks.
Gavin Chillot and Kyle Mosley each threw scoreless innings in relief for the Panthers. The freshman, Chillot, did not allow a hit or a run in his 1.2 innings tonight. Kyle Mosely did not allow a base runner and struck out two of the three batters he faced in the seventh inning.
Pitt's starter, Aidan Coleman, allowed just two hits over the first three innings as this game was scoreless through the first four and a half innings. Penn State got on the board first with a bases loaded walk in the bottom half of the fourth.
The Panthers immediately answered in the top of the fifth, doing so without recording a hit. The Nittany Lion defense dropped pop flies in consecutive at-bats and the Panthers had runners at first and second with one out. Turner Grau hustled out of the box and ended up at second on what should have been a routine F-6 while Ryan Zuckerman reached on a pop-up dropped by the second baseman. Dom Popa worked his second walk of the day and Pitt loaded the bases with one out. Tyler Bischke drove in a run and reached on an RBI fielder's choice and tied the game at one.
Penn State scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the sixth inning and led 8-1 after six.
They tacked on two more in the bottom of the eighth and won the ballgame 10-1.
