Pitt Welcomes No. 14 Virginia for Weekend Series

The Pitt Panthers will host the No. 14 Virginia Cavaliers in a weekend series at Charles L. Cost Field.
The last time these teams met, Pitt took the series from then No. 7 Virginia on the road, snapping their record 23-game home win streak.
Pitt is just two wins shy of 100 conference wins since joining the ACC. They currently sit at 98 ACC wins.
WE'RE GOING STREAKING
• Dom Popa is currently riding an ACC-best 17-game hitting streaking entering this weekend series against #14 Virginia.
• Including Popa's final three games of last season, he also has a 21-game on-base streak.

• Tyler Bischke has also been hot as of late, hitting safely in the last 13 games.
• Luke Cantwell has reached base safely in the last 14 games, drawing 17 walks in that span.
• C.J. Funk has recorded a hit in eight consecutive games while collecting 15 hits during that span.
• Jake Kendro had an eight-game hitting streak prior to going 0-1 vs. Akron, a game in which he left early due to injury.

• Popa's 17-game hitting streak is Pitt's longest such streak since 2019 when his brother, Nico, had a hit in 19 consecutive games.
• Dom would need three more consecutive games with a hit to break his brother's streak.
DOM DOING DAMAGE
• Senior OF Dom Popa is off to the best start of his career, hitting .351 with 23 runs scored and a .459 slugging percentage. He is tied for the team lead in runs scored (23), is tied for second in doubles (8) and hits (26) and is third on on-base percentage (.467).
• He's recorded eight multiple-hit games so far this season, including a three-hit game against Maine on Opening Weekend.
• Popa took over as Pitt's leadoff man during the second week of the season and is flourishing in his new role.
HAVE A WEEK, BISCH
• Tyler Bischke hit .600 with 15 hits, five doubles, nine RBI, one home run, 23 total bases, five runs scored and a .920 slugging percentage in Pitt's five games last week.
• The senior went 3-4 with a double and three RBI in Pitt's win over Kent State on Tuesday.
• Bischke went 4-5 with a three-run home run in last Saturday's game against Boston College.
HE'S GOT THE FUNK
• C.J. Funk has arguably been one of the Panthers best hitters in the month of March, recording a hit in 10 of Pitt's 11 games this month. He has had a multi-hit performace in six of those games.
• Funk has recorded three hits in three of the last four games. His four RBI and four runs.
