Four Panthers Set for NCAA Women’s Championships

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's swimming and diving team will have four student-athletes compete at the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jack Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia. The University of Georgia will serve as the host from March 20-23.
Freshman Mariana Osorio Mendoza (platform), sophomore Claire Jansen (100 Back, 200 Back), junior Jess Vega (Platform), and senior Sophie Yendell (50 Free, 100 Free, 100 Fly) will all represent Pitt in Athens.
ESPN+ will provide live digital broadcast coverage for preliminary and finals sessions Wednesday through Saturday. Preliminary events will begin each day at 10 a.m. with the final sessions beginning at 6 p.m. Meet information, streaming links, tickets, heat sheets, results, and parking information on the Championship Central Page.
Osorio Mendoza earned a spot in her first-ever NCAA Championships after placing first overall (573.00) in the women's platform finals. The freshman put her name up on the boards at Princeton as her final score of 300.85 shattered the pool women's platform record. Junior Jess Vega secured second overall with her score of 499.80 to punch her ticket to the NCAA Championships. This will be Vega's second appearance at the NCAA Championships after qualifying last year in the platform competition.
Jansen makes her second appearance at the NCAA Championships after breaking her own school record she set back in December with her new time of 52.06 at the Bulldog Last Chance Meet. The Naperville, Ill. native also broke her own school record in the 50 back at the 2023 ACC Championships – clocking in at 24.34.
Yendell returns the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year and is ranked ninth on the Psych Sheet in the 100 fly (50.87) and 15th for the 50 free (21.83). The Tamworth, England native broke her own school records this season in the 50 free (21.83) and the 100 fly (50.87).
