
Pitt Hosts Boston College in First Home ACC Series

PITTSBURGH - The Panthers will host the Eagles of Boston College this weekend in their first home ACC series of the season at Charles L Cost Field.
In a throwback Big East matchup, these two teams will meet for the 60th time on Friday afternoon. Pitt and Boston College first met in 1990, Pitt leads the all-time series 32-27. Boston College swept last weekend at NC State but scored 27 runs in their two midweek games this week against Merrimack and Sienna College.
Pitt went 1-1 in their midweek games with a win in eight innings against Akron and an extra-inning loss to Youngstown State.
The Panthers had their second-highest run putout of the season, winning 13-3 in just eight innings. Tyler Bischke and Anthony LaSala each had three-hit games, Luke Cantwell hit a two-run shot and scored four runs and Dom Popa went 2-5 with two doubles.
After tying the game with three runs in the ninth inning, Pitt fell in extras to Youngstown State 7-6. Josh Spiegl got the start behind the dish and went 3-5 with a two-run home run and a two-run game-tying single in the bottom of the ninth. Dom Popa, Tyler Bischke and Turner Grua all had multi-hit games.
The Panthers are just three wins shy of 100 conference wins since joining the ACC. They currently sit at 97 ACC wins.
DOM DOING DAMAGE
• Senior OF Dom Popa is off to the best start of his career, hitting .362 with 18 runs scored and a .500 slugging percentage. He leads the team in hits (21) and doubles (8) and is tied for the team lead in total bases (29).
• He is tied for 25th in the country in doubles (8).
• He's recorded seven multiple-hit games so far this season, including a three-hit game against Maine on Opening Weekend.
• Popa has recently taken over as Pitt's leadoff man and is hitting .313 with 10 hits since then.
jacK soKol
• Jack Sokol is 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in his four starts this year. And has only surrendered five runs over his last three starts (17 innnings).
• Against No 16 North Carolina, Sokol surrendered just two runs on six hits in his six innings pitched.
• In Vegas, Sokol threw six innings and allowed only one run on three hits while striking out a season-high eight batters against Cal.
OFF THE BENCH
• Anthony LaSala came off the bench in Pitt's win over Akron on Tuesday and went 3-4 with an RBI.
• LaSala came in for an injured Jake Kendro in the top of the third inning and then led off the bottom half of the inning with a single to right center.
BRING YOUR GREEN HAT, LET'S GO
• Dom Popa currently has a 13-game hitting streak. He has reached base safely in all 14 games this season.
• Tyler Bischke has also been hot as of late, hitting safely in the last nine games.
• Jake Kendro had an eight-game hitting streak prior to going 0-1 vs. Akron, a game in which he left early due to injury.
