Panthers Drop Midweek Matchup to FIU, 3-1

MIAMI – Pitt was held to one run on three hits as the Panthers dropped a midweek contest at FIU, 3-1, at Felsburg Field in Miami.

Pitt and FIU both went three up three down through the first two innings. FIU took an 1-0 lead from an Ashton Lansdell solo home run to left field. Macy Hamilton extended her hitting streak to four games with single up the middle to break up the FIU no hitter, but the Panthers were held scoreless through the fourth inning.

Kylie Griggs ledoff the top of the fifth with a solo home run off the first pitch to even the score at 1-1. Griggs has homered in three of her last five games and has recorded a hit in four straight contests.

FIU reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single up the middle. The FIU Panthers added another run in the bottom of the sixth off a double down the left field line to take a 3-1 lead.

Griggs reached second base on a fielding error in the top of the seventh but was picked off at second to end the game.

Jewlie Vanderkous earned the win for FIU as Adriana Romano was given the loss after two earned runs on four hits with a strikeout, over 4.1 innings.
