Panthers Travel to Tempe to Face the Sun Devils

TEMPE, AZ - Pitt Lacrosse has hit the road for the second contest of the 2024 season, as the Panthers face the Arizona State Sun Devils Thursday in Tempe. The non-conference clash is scheduled for an 8 PM MST (6 ET) opening draw at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium.
This will be the first matchup between the two programs. Arizona State has opened up their campaign with two wins, including 21-10 over Xavier and 17-10 over Niagara. So far this year, the Sun Devils have three attackers with at least eight points: Lydia Oldknow (8 G, 1 A), Shannon Urey (8 G) and Anna Thornton (5 G, 3 A). Junior Katie Vahle has seen the majority of the time in the net to this point and holds a save percentage of .353 with six saves. As a team, Arizona State has secured more draw controls (39-26) and ground balls (32-20) than their two opponents.
The Sun Devils are led by second-year head coach Taryn VanThof and finished 2023 with a 6-13 record.
Three Panthers led the way offensively in the season opener last week, with Jenna Hendrickson (4 G), Sydney Naylor (3 G) and Camdyn O'Donnell (3 G) each recording hat tricks. As a team, Pitt held Duquesne to two goals, a program record for fewest goals allowed in a game. Each of the three goalies on the roster saw action and collectively made eight saves. The Panthers also controlled the draw cirlce, grabbing 21 to the Dukes' five.
Last Friday's victory of 20-2 saw the second highest number of goals scored in a game in program history and the margin of +18 was the largest in program history in a Panther win.
