
Panthers Set To Host #3 NC State Sunday For 17th Annual Pink The Pete Game

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women’s basketball team (7-17, 1-10 ACC) returns home Sunday afternoon for their 17th Annual Pink The Pete breast cancer awareness game against #3 NC State at noon. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game to show support in the fight against breast cancer.
PROMOTIONS
- The first 500 fans on Sunday will receive a free Pink The Pete t-shirt
- Pink The Pete rally towels will also be handed out to fans on arrival
- All students in attendance will be entered into drawings for gift cards and a PlayStation 5

THE OPENING TIP
- The Panthers return home Thursday night as they welcome the Florida State Seminoles to the Petersen Events Center for a 7pm tip on ACC Network Extra.
- Senior LiatuSunday’s game against #3 NC State marks the 17th Annual Pink The Pete game for the Panthers. The annual pink game aims to raise awareness for those affected by breast cancer. Pitt head coach Tory Verdi has a close connection to pink games as his wife, Heather, is a breast cancer survivor.
- Senior Liatu King has been the best player on the floor for Pitt all year long. Last time out against Florida State, she collected her 14th double-double and 10th game with 20+ points as she finished with 21 points, 15 rebounds and three assists. She is the only player in the NCAA this season to average at least 19.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.7 blocks per game.
- King ranks inside the top-5 in the ACC in multiple categories including fifth in scoring (19.2 ppg), second in rebounding (10.5 rpg), first in offensive rebounds (3.6 orpg), third in blocks (1.7 bpg), third in field goal percentage (54.7%), second in minutes played (35.4 mpg) and second in double-doubles (14).
- Forward Jala Jordan has been great for Pitt of late as last time out she recorded her second straight double-double with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Florida State. Over her last eight games she is averaging 28.7 minutes, 14.5 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 42.9% from the floor and 93.9% (31-for-33) from the free throw line.

17TH ANNUAL PINK THE PETE GAME
- Sunday’s game against #3 NC State will mark the 17th annual Pink The Pete game for Pitt. It’s the annual breast cancer awareness game for the Panthers as everyone in the building will be encouraged to wear pink.
- Breast cancer survivors will be honored throughout the contest as the first 500 fans will also receive a Pink The Pete t-shirt. Breast Cancer survivors will join the Pitt starting five and will be honored during a halftime ceremony.
- Pitt owns a 5-11 record all-time in their Pink The Pete games as #3 NC State will be the eighth nationally-ranked opponent the Panthers have hosted in those contests.
- Pitt snapped a seven-game losing streak in Pink The Pete games last season as they earned the 60-51 victory over Virginia. King finished off her afternoon for Pitt with 10 points and nine rebounds in the win.
- Average attendance for Pink The Pete games inside the Petersen Events Center is 3,600 excluding the 2021 season during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

SERIES HISTORY – NC STATE
- This meeting marks the 13th of all-time between the two programs with NC State owning the 10-2 lead in the series.
- The Wolfpack have won eight straight in the all-time series with Pitt’s last win over NC State coming on Feb. 5, 2015 in Raleigh.
- NC State is 5-0 all-time in games played in Pittsburgh including earning a 89-54 win at the Pete in the last game there on Dec. 10, 2021.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- NC State enters Sunday’s game with a 20-3 overall record and a 8-3 ACC mark after falling at home to Virginia Tech on Thursday, 72-61.
- The Wolfpack are currently ranked #3 in the latest AP Top-25 Poll.
- The Wolfpack are being led offensively by Aziaha James who is averaging 15.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists while connecting on a team-high 42 three-pointers.
- Saniya Rivers is enjoying a good season as she is averaging 12.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, team-high 4.6 assists and team-high 2.6 steals. Madison Hayes is averaging 12.0 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds while shooting 49.5% from the floor. River Baldwin has notched a team-high 24 blocks so far this season.
- As a team, NC State is averaging 76.3 points while allowing 60.0 points. They are shooting 43.9% from the floor and 34.3% from behind the arc while securing 43.9 rebounds per game which leads the ACC.
LAST TIME OUT – VS. FLORIDA STATE
- Despite a huge third quarter that saw Pitt outscore Florida State 29-18, the Panthers fell on Thursday night 76-60.
- Pitt was led once again by Liatu King who netted a team-high 21 points, 15 rebounds and three assists. It marked her career-high 14th double-double of the season.
- Jala Jordan continued her strong play as she notched her second straight double-double and third of the season with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Malcolm also had a nice game as she finished with 12 points while netting a pair of triples in the loss.
- As a team, Pitt shot just 37.1% from the floor while the Seminoles shot 40.0% in the win. The Panthers won the rebounding battle 44-38 while also owning the 40-26 edge in paint scoring in the loss.
SEEING DOUBLE-DOUBLES
- So far this season, Pitt players have combined to record 20 double-doubles. It marks the most in a single season by Pitt players since joining the ACC in 2013-14.
- Four different Panthers have secured at least one double-double this season (King, Jordan, Ayodele, Washenitz). It marks the first time Pitt had four different players earn a double-double in a season since 2016-17.
- The forward duo of Liatu King and Jala Jordan have secured double-doubles in two straight games. It marks the first time since joining the ACC that Pitt had a pair of forwards earn double-doubles in back-to-back games.
- King is leading the way with a career-high 14 double-doubles on the season. She currently ranks second in the ACC and ninth in the NCAA in double-doubles.
- The 14 double-doubles are the most in a season by a Pitt player since Chelsea Cole (16) in 2010-11. She has posted the third most double-doubles in a single season by a Pitt player in the past 30 years.
- Her 14 double-doubles through the first 24 games of the season are the most by a Pitt player in program history.
- For her career, King has now recorded 24 double-doubles (points + rebounds). She ranks third among Pitt players in career double-doubles over the past 30 seasons (Marcedes Walker - 51, Chelsea Cole - 26).
- Jordan has posted a career-high three double-doubles on the season after earning just one in her previous four seasons of college basketball.
