
Panthers Set Six School Records at Texas Invitational

Austin, TX - Pitt set six school records and earned multiple top ten finishes this week at the Texas Invitational in Austin, TX.
They set school records in the women's 200 Free, 200 Medley 400 Free and 400 Medley relays, the women's 400 Individual Medley and the men's 500 Free.
Pitt's women's 200 Medley Relay team would also make A-Cut and qualify for NCAAs, making them the first Panther women's relay team to do so in 19 years.
Wednesday 11/20
The Panthers broke three school records on the first night of the Texas Invitation on Wednesday evening, including a record that had stood for almost eight years.
The Panther women broke relay records in the 200 Free and 400 Medley Relays. Sophie Yendell, Claire Jansen and Avery Kudlac each contributed to both of them. Yendell, Jansen, Kudlac and Sydney Gring broke their 200 Free Relay record from last year with a time of 1:29.07. While Yendell, Jansen, Kudlac and Cecilia Viberg set the 400 Medley Relay record by two seconds with a 3:33.07.
Max Matteazzi broke the 500 Free record that had stood since 2017 with his 4:18.17. For Matteazzi, it is his first school record.
In addition to the record-breaking success, Pitt had a thrilling finish to the day as Julian Koch and Donat Fabian finished within one tenth of a second from each other in the 50 Free. Koch finished T-2 with a 19.51 while Fabian finished in 4th with his 19.52.
Thursday 11/21
Pitt would set two more school records on Thursday night, which brought the total to five for the Panthers over the first two days. The women's 200 Medley Relay team not only set their second school record of the weekend but also qualified for NCAAs, making them Pitt's first women's relay team to do so in 19 years.
Claire Jansen, Cecilia Viberg, Sophie Yendell and Avery Kudlac combined for a qualifying time of 1:35.82, the first women's relay team to do so since 2005-06.
Freshman Kimmy Shannon would go on to set her first school record in the women's 400 IM, finishing with a time of 4:10.13.
A pair of Pitt's men's relay teams had strong finishes as well, finishing second in the 800 free relay and third in the 200 Medley Relay. Pitt's 800 Free Relay team of Julian Koch, Marcin Goraj, Guy Frimis and Max Matteazzi finished with a 6:21.05 while their 200 Medley combo of Krzysztof Radziszewski, Eli Hobson, Julian Koch and Donat Fabian finished with a 1:25.26.
Friday 11/22
The Panthers set one more school record in their final event of the weekend as the women broke the school records in the 400 Free Relay. Avery Kudalc, Sophie Yendell, Claire Jansen and Sydney Gring combined for a finishing time of 3:15.51 as Pitt set their sixth school record of the weekend.
Freshman Julian Koch continued his impressive week, finishing third in the men's 100 Free as the Panthers wrapped up the Texas Invitational.
