
Panthers Earn 106-37 Exhibition Win Over Pitt-Johnstown

PITTSBURGH – Behind 26 points from junior guard Amiya Jenkins, the Pitt women's basketball team defeated Pitt-Johnstown, 106-37, Wednesday evening at the Petersen Events Center.
Individually, Jenkins led all scorers, shooting 8-for-15 from the field, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. Additionally, the Lexington, Ky., native shot 8-for-11 from the charity stripe.
The Panthers were paced by Jenkins, redshirt sophomore guard Mikayla Johnson and graduate center Khadija Faye as the trio combined for 54 of Pitt's 106 points.
As a unit, Pitt shot 50 percent (37-of-74) from the field, while holding the Mountain Cats to just 27.1 percent (13-of-48) for the contest. The Panthers also recorded 22 assists as a team, while committing only 11 turnovers – resulting in an impressive 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. Of note, senior guard Brooklynn Miles recorded eight assists individually.
After winning the opening tip, Pitt jumped out to an early 13-0 lead to start the contest. The Panthers remained on the attack and held a 24-7 advantage to close the opening period. Jenkins and Faye led the way in the first quarter, combining for six of Pitt's 10 baskets.
The two teams exchanged field goals to open the second quarter, before Pitt went on a blistering 21-2 run over the final eight minutes of the half to take a 51-17 lead into the break.
The Panthers anchored down defensively to start the third quarter, going on a 17-2 spurt and forcing a Pitt-Johnstown timeout. Pitt continued to cause chaos defensively to close the period and held a 78-29 lead entering the final frame.
Junior guard Aislin Malcolm took over in the fourth quarter, recording a game-high 10 points, while shooting a perfect 3-for-3 from the field. Overall, the Panthers outscored the Mountain Cats 28-8 over the final 10 minutes of play, coasting to the 106-37 exhibition victory.
