PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women’s basketball team (7-13, 1-6 ACC) returns to the road Sunday afternoon as they travel to take on #18 Louisville (17-3, 6-1 ACC) inside the KFC Yum! Center at 2:00 pm. Sunday’s game will air on ACC Network Extra.

THE OPENING TIP
- Pitt stays on the road Sunday, Jan. 28 as they head to Louisville, KY to battle the No. 18 Louisville Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center. Sunday’s game will tip at 2pm and air on ACC Network Extra.
- Senior Liatu King has been the best player on the floor for Pitt all year long. Last time out in the win at Virginia, she recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 15 points, a season-high 16 rebounds, five steals and four assists in 39 minutes of work. She is the only player in the NCAA this season to average at least 19.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game.
- King ranks inside the top-5 in the ACC in multiple categories including fifth in scoring (19.5 ppg), second in rebounding (10.1 rpg), third in blocks (1.8 bpg), third in field goal percentage (55.4%), second in minutes played (35.7 mpg) and second in double-doubles (11).
- Forward Jala Jordan led the Panthers with 18 points and nine rebounds in their road win over Virginia on Thursday. Over her last four games, Jordan is averaging 27.0 minutes, 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 53.5% from the floor.
- The Panthers have two great offensive rebounders on their team as Liatu King is tied for the ACC-lead averaging 3.5 offensive rebounds per game and Rapuluchi Ayodele ranks fourth, averaging 3.3 per game. The duo is one of two in the NCAA (Angel Reese, Aneesah Morrow, LSU) to each have at least 66 offensive rebounds on the season.

LET ME ASSIST YOU
- The Panthers have shown that their best offense is one that shares the basketball and they’ve had some early success passing the basketball.
- So far this season, Pitt ranks ninth in the ACC in assists per game (14.5 apg) while ranking seventh in total assists (289).
- Last time out, the Panthers had 15 assists on 23 made field goals in the road win over Virginia. Four Pitt players recorded at least two assists while Marley Washenitz and Liatu King each recorded four in the win.
- Pitt has nine games so far this season with at least 15 assists. It marks the most such games in a season for Pitt since 2018-19 when they had 13 games with 15+ assists.
- The Panthers are one of two ACC teams (Duke) so far this season to have six players with at least 27 assists (Washenitz - 78, Malcolm - 52, Battle - 43, King - 35, Timmerson - 28, Perkins - 27). Pitt is also one of four ACC teams (Louisville, NC State, Syracuse) to have three players with at least 43 assists.
- Washenitz leads the team with a career-high 78 assists while also ranking 10th in the ACC in assists per game (3.9 apg).
- In the win over Saint Francis earlier this year, Pitt dished out a season-high 26 assists on 31 made field goals. Washenitz (eight) and Aaryn Battle (seven) led the way as Pitt saw six players record at least two assists in the win over Saint Francis.
- Washenitz (eight) and Battle (seven) are the first set of ACC teammates since Kayla Jones and Raina Perez (NC State) in 2021 to each have at least seven assists and one or fewer turnovers in the same game. They are one of four sets of teammates in the ACC over the past 15 years to have a game like that.
- The 26 assists on 31 made field goals marked the highest percentage (.839) of assisted baskets in a game for Pitt since Nov. 25, 2017 against Arkansas State (.852).
MORE NOTES
SERIES HISTORY – LOUISVILLE
- This meeting marks the 29th of all-time between the two programs with the Cardinals owning the 26-2 lead in the series.
- Louisville has won 22 straight in the series including a 74-44 victory in Pittsburgh on Jan. 11.
- The Panthers are 0-12 all-time in games played in Louisville.
- The last win for Pitt over the Cardinals came on Feb. 14, 2010 as they collected a 72-69 home victory.
- The two teams have played 17 times since Pitt joined the ACC in 2013-14.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS
- Louisville enters Sunday’s game with a 17-3 overall record and a 6-1 ACC mark after collecting an 88-60 home victory over Boston College Thursday night.
- The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 18 in the most recent AP Top-25 Poll released on Monday.
- The Cardinals are being led offensively by Kiki Jefferson who is averaging 13.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 steals while shooting 51.5% from the floor and 39.5% from behind the arc.
- Olivia Cochran is enjoying a nice season as she is averaging 11.8 points and a team-high 6.0 rebounds while shooting 53.5% from the floor and leading the team with 29 steals. Transfer Sydney Taylor has started all 20 games and is averaging 9.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals while connecting on a team-high 30 three-pointers.
- As a team, the Cardinals are averaging 75.8 points per game while holding opponents to just 59.5 points per contest. Louisville is also shooting 46.7% from the floor (3rd in ACC) and 32.9% from three-point range. The Cardinals also own the second-best turnover margin in the ACC (+5.5).
LAST TIME OUT – AT VIRGINIA
- The Panthers were able to secure their first ACC win of the season Thursday night on the road at Virginia as they downed the Cavaliers 56-52 at JPJ Arena. Pitt led for most of the second half thanks to a huge third quarter that saw them outscore Virginia 24-6.
- Jala Jordan led the Panthers in scoring with 18 points and nine rebounds while Liatu King notched her 11th double-double of the season with 15 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and five steals in 39 minutes of work.
- As a team, Pitt shot 36.5% from the floor while they held the Cavaliers to just 28.3% from the floor. It marked the lowest FG% for an ACC opponent since last season against Virginia (27%).
- The Panthers dominated the paint outscoring the Cavaliers 34-14 in the win while also winning the points off of turnover battle, 22-9.
JALA JORDAN COMING UP BIG
- Graduate transfer forward Jala Jordan has been featured more of late and she’s taking advantage of her chances on the offensive end.
- So far this season, she is averaging 17.8 minutes, 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 43.2% from the floor and connecting on 73.3% of her free throws.
- Last time out in the win at Virginia, Jordan led all scorers with 18 points and nine rebounds while going 8-for-17 from the floor. It marked her fourth straight game in double figures for the Panthers.
- Over her last four games, Jordan is averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 53.5% from the floor.
- Last week against Syracuse, Jordan came off the bench and netted 15 points and five rebounds on 6-for-11 shooting. It marked her third straight game scoring in double figures.
- Against Boston College, Jordan paced the Panthers with 18 points, nine rebounds, one steal and one block in a season-high 30 minutes of work. She finished the game going 5-for-9 from the floor while connecting on a career-best 8-for-8 from the line.
- She has now scored in double figures eight times this season and 23 times in her career.
- Jordan has a career-high four games with 15+ points so far this season.
- Earlier this year in the win over Lehigh, Jordan netted a career-high 23 points while adding five rebounds. She was an efficient 10-for-15 from the floor in the win.
- When Jordan plays 20+ minutes for the Panthers she produces. In the eight games she has played 20+ minutes she is averaging 14.8 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 52.8% from the floor.
- Dating back to the Notre Dame game on Jan. 4, Jordan has now connected on 12 straight free throw attempts for the Panthers.
KING OF THE COURT
- Senior Liatu King entered ACC play with her expectations at an all-time high as the Pitt coaching staff has instilled a confidence in her as a go-to option this season.
- She is enjoying a career year as she is averaging a team-high 19.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.8 blocks while shooting 55.4% from the floor.
- King currently ranks inside the top-5 in the ACC in multiple categories including scoring (fifth), rebounding (second), offensive rebounds per game (first), blocks (third), field goal percentage (third), double-doubles (second) and minutes per game (second). She is the only player in any Power 5 conference to rank inside the top-5 in each of those categories.
- She is also the only player in the nation currently averaging at least 19.5 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game on the year.
- King is the only player in the nation with at least 35 assists, 40 steals and 35 blocks so far this season.
- So far in ACC play, King is averaging 19.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.8 steals while shooting 59.1% from the floor. She ranks fifth in scoring, third in rebounding, second in field goal percentage and sixth in blocks in ACC games.
- Last time out, King notched her 11th double-double of the season in the win over Virginia as she finished with 15 points, a season-high 16 rebounds, five steals and four assists on 6-for-13 shooting.
- King is the only player in the NCAA this season and one of two players in the ACC over the past 15 seasons (Dearica Hamby - Wake, 2013) to post a game with at least 15 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and four assists.
- She has now grabbed at least 14 rebounds in an ACC-leading six games this season for the Panthers. No other ACC player has more than four such games.
- King ranks second in the NCAA this season with five games with at least 25 points and 10 rebounds (Elizabeth Kitley, VT - 6).
- In the loss to Georgia Tech, King notched her ninth double-double of the season as she netted 15 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks and two steals against Georgia Tech. She is one of just two players in the ACC over the past 15 seasons to post a game with at least 15 points, 14 rebounds, six blocks and two steals (Azura Stevens - Duke - 11/15/15).
- She had a career game against #16 Notre Dame as sge exploded for a career-high 34 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and two assists while going 13-for-18 from the floor and 8-for-11 from the free throw line. She is one of just three players in the NCAA this season to post a game with at least 34 points and 13 rebounds (Caitlin Clark - Iowa, Aneesah Morrow - LSU) while being the only player in the country to also add three blocks in the same game.
- The 34 points for King are the second most by a Pitt player at the Petersen Events Center trailing only Asia Logan’s 36 against William & Mary on Nov. 11, 2012.\
- King is the first opponent to score at least 34 points and 13 rebounds in a game against Notre Dame in the past 15 seasons.
- In the win over NKU earlier this year, King went off for 30 points and nine rebounds while going 14-for-18 from the floor. She is the first ACC player in the past two seasons to score 30+ points, grab nine rebounds, make 14 field goals and shoot 77% from the floor in a single game.
- King currently ranks 36th in the NCAA with 35 blocked shots on the season. She is the only player in the NCAA 6 foot tall or shorter with at least 35 blocked shots on the year.
- She now has 12 games with multiple steals, 12 games with multiple assists and 10 games with multiple blocks on the year.
- For her career, King has now recorded 20 double-doubles (points + rebounds) including a career-high 11 this season.
- She has scored in double figures 43 times in her career while recording multiple blocks 28 times.
- A ferocious rebounder, King has grabbed at least five rebounds in 65 of her 95 career games. She has led the Panthers in rebounding 45 times while snagging 10+ boards 26 times in her career.
