
Pitt Battles But Falls In Overtime At Boston College Sunday

CHESTNUT HILL, MA – The Pitt women's basketball team (6-12, 0-5 ACC) dropped their fifth straight conference game Sunday afternoon to the Boston College Eagles on the road, 84-71, in overtime.
Jala Jordan led the way for Pitt with 18 points and nine rebounds on 5-for-9 from the floor and 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Liatu King finished off her afternoon with 18 points and seven rebounds while freshman point guard Jasmine Timmerson had a strong game in her first career start as she netted eight points, a career-high seven assists and three rebounds.
As a team, Pitt shot 46.3% from the floor while holding the Eagles top just 39.7% in the loss. The Eagles held the 40-39 lead in rebounds while the Panthers turned the ball over 26 times which led to 27 Boston College points in the loss.
King opened the game with a turnaround jumper and Timmerson netted a wide-open triple as Pitt got out to the early 7-4 lead. The Eagles responded with a 7-0 run to0 take the 11-7 lead but Lauren Rust finished the quarter with four straight points as the two teams entered the second quarter tied, 11-11.
Jordan opened the scoring in the second with a pair of free throws, but the Eagles came right back with a 6-1 run to force a Pitt timeout, leading 20-14 midway through the quarter. After a King jumper out of the timeout, the Eagles pushed their lead out to 28-17 with three minutes to go in the half. The Panthers came right back and ended the half on a 10-4 run as Timmerson drained a trio of free throws and Aaryn Battle finished off a fast break layup to make it 32-27 in favor of Boston College at the break.
Jordan and Marley Washenitz opened the third with layups to get Pitt within four, 35-31, before a Boston College corner triple ended the run for the Panthers. A layup from Jordan and a jumper from Aislin Malcolm got Pitt within 42-39 with six minutes to play but the Eagles made back-to-back buckets to force the Panthers to take a timeout trailing 46-39 midway through the quarter. Pitt got within two, 50-48, late in the quarter on a Washenitz triple but the Eagles scored eight of the final 10 points of the quarter to take the 55-50 lead into the final frame.
Bella Perkins opened the final quarter with a triple from the win and Jordan scored four points to make it 62-59 at the final media timeout of the game. Out of the timeout, King made a pair of free throws and Jordan finished off a layup to give Pitt the 63-62 lead. The Eagles regained the 65-63 lead but Malcolm made a jumper to tie it back up, 65-65, with just over a minute to go. Both teams missed chances to win it as the game went to overtime.
Malcolm made a jumper to open the scoring for Pitt in the extra frame but the Eagles came firing back with the next seven points to force the Panthers into a timeout, trailing 74-67. The Eagles ended the overtime period strong and earned the 84-71 home victory.

- Rust finished off her game with a career-high five points and two rebounds across 12 minutes of work off the bench
